Yesterday we bought a paper shredder. We have been talking about buying one since we got married 3 years ago but we never seem to remember when we are at walmart or target. So today Weston and I sat down and started shredding.
First we started with the little basket that sits on our counter. It is the mail junk basket. In it we put mail that we need to deal with or that shouldn't be thrown away because it has personal information. While cleaning it I found a lot off other random things like:
-pez candies
-a thumb drive
-contact lens case
-random batteries
-tweezers
-about 20 bobby pins (I was happy about this find because I thought I only had 2 left)
-some change
-my old glasses
-5 pens and pencils
Once the basket was cleaned we moved onto the file box. That is where the fun shredding began. It was like a walk down financial memory lane. There were pay stubs from my very first job at Subway from back in High School, pay stubs from our various on campus jobs during college, and my favorite, my bank statements going all the way back to 2003! It was interesting to look at the statements and see where my money went back then. Before I went off to college I spent a lot at Bath and Body Works and Starbucks. During college there were a lot of 7-Eleven, Starbucks, Dutch Bros, Cinemark, and Borders entries. My life was so different back then. I didn't really have any bills that needed to be paid, so most of the money I earned I was free to spend it however I wanted. I had fun with my money and pretty much bought whatever I wanted. Looking back now I wish I would have been better about saving. A lot of my money went to food purchases like going out to eat or getting coffee instead of saving for a bigger more worth while purchase. Man those days sure were fun though. Its funny how something so small as bank statements can bring up so many good memories. Memories of Weston and I going out to eat, to the movies, late night 7-eleven runs with friends. Good times!!
So now our home is just a little bit less cluttered with worthless paper. It felt good to clean all that out. It was a LOT of shredding and I'm sure as I continue my quest to clean the kitchen and our desk there will be just as much more to shred.
